• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software and the Macintosh OS X operating system. Proficiency in Filemaker Pro and Adobe Creative Suite software desirable. Basic understanding of print processes and press requirements a plus. Knowledge of databases and data entry will also be helpful.
• A high level of proficiency in copyediting, proofreading and writing is required, as is a proven ability to adhere to an editorial style manual and commonly accepted standards in the publishing industry, including the Chicago Manual of Style.
• Practical working knowledge of Web 2.0 concepts, technologies and applications is highly desirable.
• A sincere interest in and knowledge of cinema is a definite plus.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the artistic director and publications manager, publications interns will assist in various aspects of the publications department and play an integral role in the development of various San Francisco Film Society publications, including program guides and notes for various SFFS film festivals, special screenings and other events, and Web sites including sffs.org and sf360.org. The publications intern will be responsible for updating and expanding existing content databases with quality content related to the programs of the Film Society. Developing, copyediting and writing content tailored for both the Web and print will be a daily undertaking.

Benefits
• This internship offers a great opportunity to learn about what happens behind the scenes of an international film festival. This will be useful to independent filmmakers, film students or anyone who is involved marketing or promoting films.
• Real world experience in publishing will enable interns to build their resumes. Interns are expected to own projects and have responsibility for project’s success.
• Complimentary Film Society membership and tuition wavers to SFFS classes and workshops after a certain period of service.
• Interns are able and encouraged to attend Film Society preview screenings and Film Society events that they are working on.
• Class credit (if applicable).

This internship is unpaid. To apply send resume, cover letter and writing sample and/or portfolio via email to publications manager Michael Read at mread@sffs.org. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. No telephone inquiries, please.
